Sometimes witches hunt their own…

Someone knows my secret and they’re wielding it as the weapon of my execution. I stand accused of poisoning my Gravebriar coven mate. To my fatal regret, I can’t prove my innocence without revealing the truth I’ve long kept hidden: while every other Gravebriar witch are green witches and healers, my magic lies in poisons.

There is one witch who believes me – the same boy who was sent to kill me with instructions to pluck the briars that sprouted from my grave – the only cure for a Gravebriar witch. Forge Silverthorn will be my undoing… or my salvation.

He claims there is a malicious plot vining through the witch town of Cauldron that threatens to tighten around my throat in a deadly noose. Promising I can escape by seeking the help of a banished witch who hides our kind in plain sight, he leads me to a dark circus full of witches.

The ringmaster will only help us if we agree to join his circus of uncanny tricks and diabolical feats for two nights only, using our magic to thrill his patrons. In exchange for our participation under the big top, he’ll divulge the information I need to save my coven mate and clear my name.

But when dark secrets emerge from the shadows of this promised sanctuary, I’m forced to decide if I can truly trust anyone, especially Forge… my would-be executioner, my coven’s sworn enemy, and my could-be love.

SYNOPSIS:

Real life and fairy tales collide in Never After: The Thirteenth Fairy, book one in the new middle-grade Never After series from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Descendants series, Melissa de la Cruz.

Nothing ever happens in Filomena Jefferson-Cho's sleepy little suburban town of North Pasadena. The sun shines every day, the grass is always a perfect green, and while her progressive school swears there's no such thing as bullying, she still feels bummed out. But one day, when Filomena is walking home on her own, something strange happens.

Filomena is being followed by Jack Stalker, one of the heroes in the Thirteenth Fairy, a series of books she loves about a brave girl and her ragtag group of friends who save their world from an evil enchantress. She must be dreaming, or still reading a book. But Jack is insistent--he's real, the stories are real, and Filomena must come with him at once!

Soon, Filomena is thrust into the world of evil fairies and beautiful princesses, sorcerers and slayers, where an evil queen drives her ruthless armies to destroy what is left of the Fairy tribes. To save herself and the kingdom of Westphalia, Filomena must find the truth behind the fairytales and set the world back to rights before the cycle of sleep and destruction begins once more.

Review:🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

The story is an easy read that flows flawlwlessly and effortlessly in an almost rhythmic manner. I don't often read middle grade books but the author writes such intriguing stories that I could not pass it up! Filomena is embarks on a journey that most avid readers dream about, being whisked into your favorite book or series. However, this isn't a fun excursion but a dangerous one. Filomena is not anyone special, except to her overprotective parents who have gone as far as to warn her about changeling and children being taken by fairies so she's never been on her own for even a minute until today when the last book of her favorite series is being released and her parents allowed her to go get it from the local bookstore on her own since they couldn't be taken away from their work to accompany her. But things start to go array and she's met by one of her favorite characters as someone with an evil laugh is trying to kill her. She's whisked away to Never After where she is someone special, someone who must figure out the mystery behind the Thirteenth Fairy before the evil queen destroys the kingdom. She goes from a world where anything excited almost never happens to place where plenty things are happening. There's danger, mystery, intrigue as she embarks on her adventure into a fantasy world she only dreamed about being a part of.
