I didn't know what to expect out of this book as it is geared towards men,however, I have a son and a brother who I would definitely recommend this book to. I particularly appreciate the chapter on Mental Health as I know men struggle with this most often more silently than women. Using Samson’s strengths and weaknesses to learn lessons on how to navigate these them in relation to our purpose and passion and not forget the grace God gives us.

Todd Woodfill is a modern-day Renaissance man whose life could be inspirational if it didn’t so closely resemble a comedy sketch. Genesis 3: An Important Promise

Genesis 3:15

The ideal world god creates shatters as Adam and Eve eat the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Through their act of disobedience, sin enters the world, and because of their sin, comes death. In an instant, Adam and Eve are separated from God. With their spiritual death, every living thing begins a spiral of decay that will lead to physical death. The good God has created must now coexist with evil.

Immediately after the fall, God puts into motion a plan to reclaim all that has been lost. God tells the serpent (Satan) that the seed of the woman “will crush your head.” This prophecy in Genesis 3:15, is the first promise of a Savior given in Scripture. Even as God pronounces judgment, He refuses to let us go. Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection will one day restore humanity and all of creation to its former glory. Today, Jesus’s sacrifice makes it possible for every person to enjoy the intimate relationship Adam and Eve once had with God.

Karen Westbrook Moderow is a Bible teacher and author who brings a storyteller’s perspective to Scripture. She graduated magna cum laude from California State University at Long Beach with a BA in English Literature. She also holds an MFA from Chapman University in creative writing and a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Seminary. A girl pulled into a magical library where classic stories are crumbling? Yes I was definitely into this storyline then add the search for her missing sister,sinister plot an epic world building and relatable characters and you have ingredients for a wild ride that not only teenagers can enjoy but those of us young at heart too!

“It’s always been broken.”

Those were the words God put on my heart when I cried out to him in 2020 as I tried to plot The Unraveling of Emlyn DuLaine. My cry and the fact that I was plotting a novel were not exactly connected at first–though outlining does usually result in some weeping and gnashing of teeth for me. But I released my last novel in 2020 and happened to be working on my new series, The Rivenlea Sphere, when the world was suddenly thrown into chaos.

Being creative in the midst of a global pandemic and significant social unrest is not easy. In fact, I found it impossible. I stared at my unfinished outline, asking myself and God, “Why is everything so messed up? Why is this world so broken?” I know the theological answer to that question, but sometimes, the soul aches. Sometimes, it feels like the whole world is falling apart in a way it never has before.

When God reminded me that this world has, since the fall of man, always been broken, he also reminded me that he’s always been in the business of rescuing us, giving us hope, and pointing us toward a better future–one that is complete and holy. One that is fully redeemed.

Over the next two years, an underlying brokenness that begs for solution wove itself into my storyworld. The Unraveling of Emlyn DuLaine is intentionally whimsical and fun, filled with references to beloved classics and packed with wry humor. There’s a magical library, a sassy dragon, a fish-out-of-water protagonist determined to dodge every YA trope being thrown her way. But underneath it all is the idea that this world isn’t what it was originally designed to be–and there is hope on the horizon.
