Withering Rose (Once Upon a Curse #2) Blog Tour

Withering Rose (Once Upon a Curse #2)
by
Kaitlyn Davis
Genre: YA Fantasy/Fairy Tale Retelling
Release Date: May 17th 2016

Summary:

 **A USA Today Recommended Series!**

What if Beauty was cursed, and the Beast was the only one who could save her? Don't miss WITHERING ROSE, a dystopian romance from bestselling author Kaitlyn Davis that reimagines the classic fairy tale of Beauty & The Beast. This is the second book in Once Upon A Curse, a series of interconnected stand-alone novels all set in the same fantasy universe.

"As the heat finally disappeared, I felt the bloom blossom in the very core of my soul, a rose just like my name—a ticking clock hidden behind a façade of beauty. From that moment on, my life would become a countdown, and all I could do was wait and watch as the petals of time slowly started to fall."

Omorose Bouchene has a secret—magic. There's only one problem. At the age of seven, an earthquake struck, catapulting her into a new world. A land made of skyscrapers and cell phones. Fast cars and fluorescent lights. A land where magic isn't supposed to exist and anyone who wields it is the enemy.

But after ten years of hiding, she's desperate to find a place where she can be free. Because all magic comes with a curse, and her curse is time—every ounce of power she uses strips days off of her life. The clock is winding down, and the only option left is to escape to the realm ruled by a man known only as the Beast. But the king of monsters isn’t what he seems. And the more Omorose opens her heart, the more she comes to realize that the only person she may need to fear is herself.

Review:
A story where fantasy and real life collide in a heralding tale of magic, love, curses, fear, and bravery. Omorose grew up in a kingdom ruled by royalty who possess magic that is past on to the first born heir. But no all magic is good nor do all people think it good, some think it should be eradicated from our world. So when an earthquake land Omorose and her father in a world that hates magic she must hide her magic deep inside her to keep from being discovered but that is easier said then done, especially when the magic seems to have a mind of it's own. Time is running out, after ten years of hiding she feel suffocated and longs for a place where she can let her magic free without fear of death. Her only idea: seek help and protection from the Beast King in the mountains. Both Omorose and the Beast hold secrets they are afraid to share which makes coexisting difficult until they make a truce to not speak about magic. But not only is Omorose hiding from those humans who seek to destroy magic, she is hiding from a fate she can not control or stop. However, she will do everything in her power to find a way to break not only her curse but the curse on the Beast's kingdom. Will she find an answer in time or will they both be doomed?
There were elements of Beauty and the Beast original tale intertwined within the story that I really enjoyed. Suspense and mystery kept be glued to the pages hoping against hope for a happy ending. And just when I thought I had everything figured out another wrench was thrown into the mix steering me into another possibility. There was only one element of the story that I thought wasn't resolved enough but it wasn't exactly a main element but it left open room to wonder what happens next in the lives of the characters.
And one a side note, isn't that a beautiful cover?!

RAVE REVIEWS for Gathering Frost!

"My favorite thing about this book is the action. Jade isn't a sleeping princess. She's the best fighter and so fierce in her "empty" state. I felt like this was an urban fantasy with all the steam of a romance, and it was almost perfect for me." - Jessie Potts, USA TODAY Happy Ever After Blog

"Davis writes with confidence and poise, and the story's many twists and turns stave off predictability and allow readers to become immersed in a starkly magical world filled with last hopes." - Publisher's Weekly

"Gathering Frost is just awesome in every wayBeautiful prose, lots of heart-wrenching emotion, action and romance, a great, unstoppable villain, and a smart, tough heroine who will fight for what she wants." - Geeks in High School

"The writing is flawless as always and I must say, way to take a classic and make such a creative and wonderful twist to it...It's well thought out and it unbelievably magnificent. I seriously couldn't put it down. Wait I never actually put it down. I started and finished in one sitting because it's just that good. This one is a MUST READ." - Happy Tails and Tales Blog

Paper Planes by Michele G. Miller and Mindy Hayes

Paper Planes and Other Things We Lost
Genre: Clean Teen/YA Romance

BUY THE BOOK

ABOUT THE BOOK

On June 18, 1993, Flight 397 crashed off the coast of Long Island.
But this story isn’t about the crash. Not completely.
This is a story about two high school seniors living very different lives, who share one connection: they both lost parents on that fateful flight.

Slowly, letters bridge the gap between California and Pennsylvania as Ruby Kaminski and Brett Pratt find a way to remember the past while looking toward the future.

This is a story about hope, paper planes, and the other things they lost.

SNEAK A PEAK

Prologue

Dear Amber,
Did you know you’re more likely to be attacked by a shark than die in a plane crash? I find that interesting since I never go in the ocean, but I’ve been on a plane ten times. So, I guess I’m more likely to die in a plane crash than be attacked by a shark, but maybe it’s different for you.
I thought beginning this letter as if you already know me would make the concept of a total stranger writing to you a little less weird, but now that I’ve thought about it, I realize my fascination with plane crash facts might be weirder. But I like weird. So, hi. If you didn’t catch it from my return address, I’m Ruby Kaminski from Fremonton, California. My mom died on Flight 397 with your parents. Though, can we really say they died when we have no idea what actually happened to them? Let’s refer to them as MIA. No, I’m not in denial. I’m painfully aware that they aren’t coming back, but I like facts. And the truth of the matter is most of the people on Flight 397 are MIA.
You’re probably wondering how I managed to get your address. I have my ways. Besides, I thought it might be good to connect with someone who understands what I’m going through. Though I believe our circumstances are entirely different, and there’s no way for me to understand what you’re going through, I’m hoping we can relate to one another on some level.
Do you ever wonder if, after the plane exploded, the passengers were washed up onto a remote island, and now they are kicking back, drinking coconut milk, and sun tanning under a palm tree? Maybe they are eating fresh seafood cooked over a fire and sleeping under the stars?
It’s a nice thought, don’t you think?
If you’re okay with weird, feel free to write me back. I’m full of it.
Sincerely,
Ruby Kaminski

I’m a mama of an amazing set of twins, and a wife to a pretty cool dude. I live off of coffee, books, and sarcasm. I mean, there’s no other way to live, is there? I’m not a romantic person, not really anyway. So I always find it humorous that I only read and write romance, as if it were ingrained in me. My addiction to reading turned into a love for writing. And in all reality, writing is what keeps me sane. Any spare moment I have in my entirely too crazy life, I spend spilling the words from my head onto paper.
Excerpt from Unconventional:
My eyes landed on him as soon as I stepped inside the bar and I couldn’t take them off of him. He was standing on stage, the band testing the instruments in the background. Hunter’s focus wasn’t on the crowd, or even the band, he seemed to be lost in his own world. His eyes were closed, and he tapped his chest twice making me wonder about the meaning behind it. He took a deep breath, opened his mouth, and the most gorgeous voice came out.
The sound of him singing enveloped me, I had never heard anyone sing like that before. He was so raw, real, intriguing. And everything about the words coming from his mouth had me stunned. A few lines in, Hunter finally opened his eyes and as if he knew that I would be there, standing in this exact spot, watching him completely unabashed, his gaze burned into mine. I was pinned and powerless because his words, his voice, his stare, it was intense—it was more than that, it was indescribable. He was indescribable on stage singing like he was doing it just for me.
As the song progressed, I listened to the words closely, feeling the need to know exactly what fueled this kind of passion. As each line blurred into the next, I realized he was talking about death and the way that death can be the very reason you live. Something about that shook me to my core and I started to feel. Feeling what, I couldn’t be sure, but the emotions rising in my chest were foreign and unnerving. It made me want to run, because if there was anything I didn’t feel comfortable with, it was emotions. But despite the immense need to leave, I couldn’t. My feet were planted to the ground as if I were cemented in place, forced to watch as he seduced the stage, the crowd, me.
Despite feeling like I wanted to bolt and never look back, I couldn’t help but feel entranced by his stage presence. He really knew how to bring people a good show. You could feel the way he loved this, it was obvious and right there in your face. It was apparent in the way he moved, as if he had no choice but to let the melody take over. It was sexy, enticing, addicting—like he needed to be anymore intoxicating to me.
I watched him, studying him, song after song, and pretended like I wasn’t staring at the way his bottom lip seemed to pout as he sang, or the way he flipped his hair, revealing those big brown eyes looking back at me. But, in a blink of an eye, everything stopped.
The last words were sung. The ending of the music played out, getting quieter and quieter. And the crowd went insane sounding like we were at the Super Bowl instead of a small dive bar. Hunter smirked in my direction and nodded toward the bar, telling me to meet him there. I didn’t move or acknowledge him before he jumped off stage, his arm around the bassist, laughing as they made their way to the back exit.
I stood in place, unsure of what to do and how to go about my life after seeing something that…exhilarating.
