Part of a world I loathe.
Part of a family who hates me more than I hate myself.
Living with a girl who reminds me of my darkness.
I'm. In. Hell.
Also known as the Cosa Nostra.
My life was over the minute I stepped off that plane.
Son to a murdered mob boss.
Heir to a throne of murder and lies.
My name is Dante Nicolasi.
And there will be blood.

Review:Book hangover for days where all you want to do is staying living in the world the Author created, yeah I think that is the epitome of a bestseller and that's exactly what Rachel has created! I'm so addicted to this series that I think it's time to start an Eagle Elite Mafia support group! I literally started rereading the series again just stay in their world,my mind was consumed with all things Mafia!
Dante and El are dynamic characters that just add more depth to the series. I love their interaction and relationship. They're almost like Beauty and the Beast although in the beginning all El wants to do is hide from the Beast but she's stuck in their world and must find someone to protect her before the Russians find her and finish the job. But beware there may be a traitor in their camp. One love will unknowningly blossom while another tragically crumbles but such is life in the Mafia. You win some you lose some, you rejoice in the little victories mourn the loses and move on as a family because at the end of the day family is all you got. Blood In No Out!

Excerpt:

Dante slammed his hand into the tree, his jaw popped as he gritted his teeth together and then calm washed over him as he whispered near my ear, “Want me to kill him?” A few people walked by and stared at us, it looked like he was kissing my neck, like we were normal college students sharing a moment. Nope. Wrong story, kiddos. He just offered to kill someone for offending me, run along, nothing to see here. “After,” I said. “Kill him after he stops being useful to you, to the bosses.” I couldn’t believe what was coming out of my mouth, what I was agreeing to. “Yes.” Dante pulled back, his face broke out into a smile. “How messed up is it that I’m actually looking forward to that moment?” I gulped. “It’s in your blood.” “I wish it wasn’t,” he said gruffly. “I wish I didn’t crave it — dream about it — almost as much as I wish I didn’t feel guilt every day because of it.” I sighed and put my hands on his chest, then ran them up around his neck, he didn’t move, or flinch, so maybe we were having a moment as our mouths almost touched. “The only shame in life, is not being who you were truly born to be. If that means you kill the bad guys — kill the bad, guys Dante. Just don’t lose your soul in the process.” “And if it’s already gone?” He croaked his eyes darkening as he slowly leaned in until his forehead touched mine. Days ago I would have been terrified that his body was this close. Days ago, I would have shoved him away and run. Days ago, I would have shuddered that his bloodstained hands were running up and down my skin. But today. Today was different. Today I closed my eyes and drank in the wicked scent of Dante Nicolasi, the cologne mixed with soap. I inhaled. And opened my eyes again. Yesterday I was angry. I was afraid. Today. Against the tree. Pinned by Dante’s arms. I was safe. “I’ll help you find it,” I whispered. “Just don’t damn yourself in the process, El.” He cupped my face with his right hand, his eyes fell to my mouth, his half-lidded seductive look could stop a girl dead in her tracks. The wives always talked about how attractive his father was, even at an older age. Almost like he’d aged backward. Dante was no different. If it was possible for a human to get more attractive by the day — he’d be the one to prove you right. “Are you going to kiss me again?” I asked hopefully. “No.” He pulled away. My heart sank into my stomach. “Because I don’t want to start something I have no intention of stopping.” My head jerked, our eyes locked, and I saw it. The honesty. “Told you I’d never lie to you, El.” His voice had a warning edge to it, like I shouldn’t push him, push whatever invisible boundaries he’d mentally set up between us. His eyes never left mine. And I knew, this was what he looked like when he was telling the truth. His eyes pierced through my defenses in an unapologetic search for my heart, my soul. And I let them. “We should get to class.” I finally found my voice and started walking, he fell into step beside me. And I spent the rest of the day thinking about the non-kiss. And the promise that came with it. Enrage-AN 9.02.23 AM

"Why did you run away from your apartment, your friends, your father's coworkers? Why did you just disappear, Sophie?" Damon asked. "Because someone killed my dad." "It's possible it was an accident." "You don't believe that any more than I do." "Maybe not, but I think something specific spooked you." "You mean like the two men I saw going into my apartment building?" "You saw the men who broke into your apartment?" he asked in surprise. "I don't know if they were the ones, but they could have been." "What did they look like?" "Law enforcement, maybe—I don't know." Damon stared back at her, and she could see him running through her words in his head. "Why would you be afraid of law enforcement when your father is FBI?" "Gut instinct," she lied, knowing she wouldn't have been afraid at all if her father hadn't told her to be. "And it looks like I was right to run. If I'd gone to my apartment, who knows what would have happened?" His lips drew into a hard line. "Look, Sophie, I want to help you." "Why? Why on earth would you want to help me?" His gaze darkened, and the air sizzled between them as they found themselves back in a place probably neither of them wanted to revisit, but they were there all the same. "We're not friends," she said quickly, needing to break the tension. "We're not anything. We haven't seen each other in four years. Why do you care where I am, what I'm doing? Is it because of loyalty to my dad? That has to be it, right? Nothing else could have made you drive all the way up here." "I should have called you after that night," he said. "I'm not looking for an apology." "Aren't you?" "No. Maybe. No," she said, hating to sound so uncertain. "None of that is important now. I have bigger problems." "Then let's talk about now," he said, relief in his eyes as he changed the subject. "I respected your father. He was a mentor to me. I owe him for that, and I know that he would want me to help you. He trusted me, and I hope you can trust me, too." "I don't know if my father trusted you," she said, shaking her head. Surprise and anger flared in his eyes. "Why would you say that?" "Because he told me not to trust anyone from the bureau, and since you're an agent, that includes you. Please, just go. Just leave me alone," she pleaded, desperate to get him out of the cabin before she did something even more stupid—like start to trust him. "I'll disappear. I'll go somewhere no one else knows about. You don't have to worry about me. You've done your duty. You came after me. You did that for my dad. Now do something for me—leave me alone. You've managed it for four years. You can keep going." His mouth tightened. "I'm not leaving you alone. You won't be safe. You can't get help from a friend, because you'll put them in danger, and even if you are very careful, you'll make a mistake. You don't know how to stay off the radar, but I do. You're going to have to trust someone at some point. You're going to have to put your anger aside and let it be me." Before she could answer, she was suddenly hit with a shower of glass from the nearby window. What the hell had just happened? Another pane blew out, and something whizzed by her ear. Damon grabbed her arm and pulled down as a third window exploded. Someone was shooting at her!         Barbara Freethy is a #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of 60 novels ranging from contemporary romance to romantic suspense and women's fiction. Exclusive Excerpt:

The slowing of the A-Train pulls me from a deep, dreamless sleep. I sit up and twist, stretching out my neck, a smile overtaking my face as the events of the past day return to me. Bryce is alive. I left him sleeping in my hotel room while I hopped a train to go meet Tony. We’re finally going to tell the world about the Ruins. I glance out the window only to be greeted by darkness. There are no lights from the upcoming station. A murmur rises through the car as the other passengers voice my confusion aloud. Across from me a guy stares at his tablet, his eyes widening. His head pops up and his horrified gaze locks with mine, sending a chill through me. “What’s wrong?” “We’re being boarded.” “Boarded? What does that mean?” “A bunch of people with guns, calling themselves the Uprising, are boarding the train.” The chill becomes ice, turning my blood to slush. Two words repeat in my head: we failed. I get up and cross the aisle to look at the guy’s tablet. He’s reading a news story about A-Trains throughout the Union being taken over by soldiers. My breath stalls in my lungs. The murmur grows louder and someone begins to cry. Panic wells up from my core. Are they looking for me? Do they know I blew up their camps? I move toward the doors, driven by a burning need to escape before they find me. “Where are you going?” tablet dude asks. “I don’t know, but this isn’t good.” He studies me for a few beats with pale green eyes. “No, it’s not. If the news stories are to be believed, anyway. We’re not near a station. You know that right?” I nod. “And it’s a long way down.” “Yep.” He shoves his tablet in his back pocket and grabs his backpack from the seat next to him, the corners of his mouth lifting in a wry grin. “Then let’s go.” I lift a brow. “You’re coming with me?” He shrugs. “Like you said, this isn’t good. I’d rather take my chances out there.” He leads the way down the aisle to the side doors. “What are you doing?” a woman screeches. “Getting off this train,” tablet guy says over his shoulder. “Are you insane?” someone else calls. “Maybe, but based on what I just read, staying isn’t proof of sanity, either.” This guy is different from most Union guys, and yet, he doesn’t speak like someone from the Ruins. He’s missing the accent, for one, plus he lacks the roughness around the edges. While the other passengers are cowering in their seats, unsure what to do, he’s ready to jump from the train with a total stranger. He notices me staring and winks. “Are we doing this, Red?” “It’s Evan, and yeah.” “Chase.” He nods before pulling the emergency release and pushing the door open.

You ever hear the phrase, about as successful as a soup sandwich? Well, that's me, I’m the soup sandwich, but instead of a soggy mess, you have a twenty five year old with a Bachelor’s degree in nothing useful who just quit her job at the local home improvement store where there were definitely no tortured billionaires looking to tie anyone up--and that's not a bad thing. I know, it's looking pretty sad right about now, but at least I don't still live with my parents…   So, here I am, embarking on a new journey covering the Funerals and Obituaries section of the local paper, the San Diego Metro News, for the editor--brace yourself--my uncle, Sal. Unfortunately, while my parents are on vacation, my Granny and her friends are determined to stir up some trouble--but this time, they may have bitten off more than they can chew--especially when some of the residents of the local retirement community are turning up unnaturally dead.   There is nothing that will keep me from protecting the people that I love, no matter how crazy they may be--not even the sexy, I mean stubborn, homicide detective, Trent Foyle, can stop me.   My name is Shelby Whitmore and I'm kind of the newest reporter for the San Diego Metro News, but hey, I'm a hit with the blue hairs.

Daniel turned his angry gaze on his younger brother. Nickel’s gray eyes filled with concern on his rounded face as he shook his head at his brother’s stupidity. He gestured in their coded sign language. “No, too many.”
Daniel’s mouth thinned. He raised his free hand to motion for his brother to stay put, and crept slowly along the wall leading to the front room. Whispered arguments had elevated into shouting. More laser fire went off, and a smoke bomb followed, filling the long hallway with thick smoke before Daniel could make his way down. Daniel held his breath and fought his way through. His eyes burned, and his lungs fought to breathe. He narrowed his eyes and felt around in front of him. With his gun at the ready, he frantically searched for his father in the dull, smoke-filled room.
“Humph! The bastards ran.”
Coughs sounded behind him. Daniel knew his brother and cousin were not far behind. The roar of an engine lit the night. He ran toward the front door to pursue the men who fled, but he tripped forward, stumbling over a firm body. He used his free hand to brace himself before falling face first on the floor. The smoke started to dissipate out of the opened door and Daniel didn’t have to look at the body to see whose it was. The punch of dread hit him dead in his chest when he pushed himself back off the slightly rounded stomach of his father’s large form.
Daniel held back a sob and swallowed. “Keep Nickel back! Keep ‘em back,” he yelled. He sat back on his knees and forced his angry eyes to land on his father.
“No!  Damn! Who-did-this?” His lips formed a scowl. Tears from the smoke and his grief fell slowly. Balling his fist, he punched down on his bent knees as grief and desolation caved in on him. Anger at his father - even dislike -didn’t take away the fact that he loved the old man and wanted him there with them. “Arghhhhhh!” His fist tightened, “I never wanted this. I’ll kill them. Why didn’t you just yell for help? I would’ve saved you,” his voice cracked. He raised his fists and pushed them against his eyes to stop his tears.
