Christmas In Evergreen:
Letters to Santa
Nancy Naigle
“They’re sweet together,” Carol mused as she
watched Lisa and Kevin.
Joe popped up out of nowhere between Carol and
Michelle. “Don’t go stirring the pot, Carol,” he said,
shaking his head.
“I do not stir the pot, Joe.” She leaned back and
placed her left hand on his cheek, then kissed the
other.
Michelle drew back. “Carol Shaw, you tried to set
me up with no less than three people last year alone.”
She placed a hand on Carol’s shoulder and walked
back to her table.
“Yes.” She wiped her hands on a towel and set it on
the counter. “But I stopped,” she insisted. “As soon as
you told me you weren’t interested.”
“Yeah, right.” Carol would never stop matchmaking.
It was just part of who she was.
The door to the cafe opened and Hannah bounded
in with a big smile, followed closely by a man and
young boy. “Hey guys.”
“Hey, Welcome back.” Carol walked over to greet
them.
“Thanks. You remember my older brother,
Thomas.” She hugged the young boy at her side. “And
my nephew, David.”
Joe stood next to the Christmas tree holding a red
carafe. “Yes, of course. Thomas, it’s good to have you
back.”
“It’s good to be back,” Thomas said.
Michelle couldn’t take her eyes off the tall, bald,
and charming Thomas as he stood there in a nice
pullover and winter coat next to his son. Joe was tall,
but Thomas was an easy few inches taller than him.
“We’ve missed the Kringle Kitchen and your
incredible apple dumplings,” he said to Carol.
“Why, thank you.” Then with that mischievous
smile on her face, Carol grabbed Thomas by the arm,
practically dragging him across the cafe. “Have you
met Michelle?”
Hannah looked confused, and Michelle could’ve
died when Carol finally stopped right beside her
chair. Michelle stood, trying to roll with the awkward
moment. Carol’s at it again!
“The famous Michelle?” Thomas nodded to his
sister. “Hannah talks about you all the time, and
somehow we haven’t met.”
“Yeah, we’re always missing each other when you’re in town, I guess.” Michelle licked her lips. She
hoped she didn’t look as flustered as she felt right this
moment, especially with Carol gawking over the two
of them. “Nice to meet you.”
“Yes.” Thomas was quiet for a second too long,
giving Carol another opening.
“Well, come on. Take your coat off.” Carol
tugged on his coat sleeve, then pulled out the chair
next to Michelle. “Have a seat right over here next
to Michelle.” She scurried behind Michelle. “And let’s
bring this table over and get you two all cozy, too,” she
said to Hannah and David. Hannah helped move the
tables together.
Carol rushed off and came back with a pot of
coffee in a flash, warming up Michelle’s coffee first.
“So, Thomas. Correct me if I’m wrong, but you and
David spend Christmas here every...other year. Right?”
“Right. My ex-wife and I, we trade off Christmases.”
Carol eyed Michelle. “I see.” Her smile was wide
as she did a slow turn away, making sure Michelle saw
the “go-get-him” look in her eye.
No. You’re not a pot stirrer, Carol. Right.
Michelle laughed nervously, but thankfully,
Thomas was laughing too.

Review and Giveaway:Clear Confusion by Kathy M. Howard

Welcome to the Blog Review  (and Giveaway!) for Clear Confusion by Kathy M. Howard, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Title: Clear Confusion
Author: Kathy M. Howard
Publisher: Ambassador International
Release Date: July 1, 2019
Genre: Inspirational Suspense/Thriller

What am I going to do, God? Who am I?

Charlotte Hallaway needs to come to terms with her father's death. He had been her only family, and she wasn't handling her grief well. It was just supposed to be a few weeks of peace and quiet to process it all, but then she saw them-a drug deal and a murder within seconds of each other.

And they saw her.

Now running for her life, Charlotte boards a bus to escape her pursuers and wakes up the next morning in the woods of Jennings, Georgia, without a memory of how she got there or of who she is. All she knows is an underlying fear she can't seem to shake.

When two hunters find her battered and scared, can she put aside the clear confusion she's experiencing to trust them? She wants to trust them, especially Nicholas, but fear is holding her back. Trust is incredibly hard when one is so clearly confused. Could it be he and his friend are not who they claim to be?

Who are they really . . . and who is she?
 Review:
This is the first book I've read by the author and I found it an intriguing read. Charlotte is grieving her father's death and decides to travel to find some peace but what she finds is trouble by witnessing a drug deal gone bad. So she's on the run jumping on a bus and ending up in a field in Georgia with no memory of who she is or how she got there but fear of something still plagues her. Nicholas does what he can to help and soon friendship kindles into something more but Charlotte needs to figure out who she can really trust. Through her plight she never loses her faith and connection to God.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from JustRead Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kathy M. Howard resides in south Georgia with her husband and two children. She has been involved in some form of education since 1998 as an elementary school teacher, a private school principal, and presently as a homeschooling mom. She loves the Lord and wants to share Jesus where she can, using words written and spoken. By God's goodness and with the support and love of her family, she has written two novels, From Dishes to Snow (October, 2014), and its sequel, From Driftwood to Sapphire (August, 2015).

Review of The Gauntlet ~Imdalind Academy Book 1

Review:
I loved being sucked back into the world of Imdalind with a fresh set of characters entwined with the ones I fell in love with in the Imdalind series! Now it's the kids' turn to keep the world at peace between the Eternals(those with magic bloodlines) and the Undermortals(those without magic bloodlines) and they are tasked with keeping their parents' wishes which may prove to be harder and more deadlier than they thought. Add in a rebel girl fighting to bring the truth to life,a prince who just wants to be normal, a girl whose parents are fanatics and raised her to be power hunger then throw them all together in an Academy full of magic and you got yourself a real adventure!

Cornerstone message from the collection:

Listen...

Everyone has their own life story that brings them to where they are in life and molds their beliefs and opinions. The problem is, we live in a reactionary world where we don't stop and listen to what others are saying, and too often we're not willing to really hear the other person's side of the story. Rather, we react to their statement or opinion by pointing fingers, and we’re quick to not only say, "You're wrong" but we often resort to name calling. We don’t stop and listen to this person whom God loves.

In each of my books, God has placed heroes/heroines on my heart that I would normally struggle with and want to tell them, "You're wrong!": a pro-choice woman, an arrogant businessman, a bully, mugger, collection agent, to name a few. With each character, God has told me, "I love them. I want you to see the heart that I see." And that's what I've tried to convey in my books. Open up our ears and our eyes to see who God sees, hears, and loves.

***FUN FACTS/INTERVIEW/GUEST POST***

Favorite place to read: It doesn’t happen often, but sitting by the shore of Lake Superior. That’s my favorite place, period!

Favorite book character from childhood: Trixie Belden - I loved how real and relatable she was. She was far from perfect, yet she was loyal to family and friends.

Favorite movie: This is ever changing. Right now it’s Avengers: Endgame. I LOVE the Marvel movies!

Favorite quote or Bible verse: This is also ever changing! Right now my favorite verse is Isaiah 43:19a “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?”

Favorite splurge/treat: Fannie May candies. Unfortunately (or maybe it’s fortunately …) there are no longer any stores near us.
Dream vacation: I’ve always wanted to travel to Israel, to walk the ground that Jesus walked.

Hidden talent/little-known fact: I (used to) draw portraits. Someday, I’ll get back to that!

Book Blitz: The Gauntlet Rebecca Ethington (Imdalind Academy #1)

The Gauntlet
Rebecca Ethington
(Imdalind Academy #1)
Publication date: July 8th 2019
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult
‘Running a revolution is easy when you have a little bit of illegal magic on your side.’ -Gemma
The only way you can receive magic is by running the masochistic Gauntlet that the royal family started seventy years ago as a way to control power. One bite from a Vily and you are filled with what many call ‘the power of the gods’ and sent to Imdalind Academy for training.
No bite, no magic, no Academy, and no place in society besides with the Drains that live in the old tunnels that dot what once was Europe.
Unless you are me, who after one bite from a loose Vily is left with a diseased fragment of magic like the Chosen magic carriers of my world. I may not be as strong as the bastards that lord over us, but that isn’t going to stop me from raising more than a little hell.
This year I am running the Gauntlet, and enrolling myself in their damn academy. There is no better way to take down the evil overlords of our world than from the inside.
Those royal bastards won’t know what hit them.
Now, if I can just get the king’s son Rowan out of my way…
Imdalind Academy is a stand alone spin-off to the Internationally Best Selling Imdalind Series.
Three series + Two Ultimate book boyfriends = The Best Magical Binge.
EXCERPT:
“They don’t trust you.” I interrupted, tapping my foot and making eyes at Ed in an attempt to get him over here. The guy looked terrified.
“This guy trusts me,” she said, nodding to Eddy who was slowly walking towards us. So slow he might as well have been walking backwards.
I gave her a look, my eyebrows twisting together. She beamed with a broader grin. Damn, all these Eternals were delusional.
“This guy is terrified you are going to eat him. Eddy?” I asked when he was only about half way too us. “Do you trust her?”
He froze in place, taking one slow step back.
“I don’t know how to answer that. If I say no, will she kill me?” Poor Eddy was practically shaking in his boots. I didn’t blame him, Wynifred had always been an unknown.
So yeah, I guess still terrifying. Just terrifying and irritating.
“I haven’t killed anyone in a few hundred years, kid, and I used to be pretty good at it.”
Eddy took another step back, a tiny squeak echoing from behind one of the tents in the communal sleeping space we were traversing through.
“You enjoyed blowing people up?” I asked, regretting the question when she smiled.
“You enjoy turning buildings to rubble,” she shrugged, smiling again.
“I enjoy standing up to oppressors for the sake of my people.” It was taking everything in me not to throw her into the wall. But I wasn’t about to go throwing murderesses against walls if I wasn’t sure I could win.
“The thing about causes, kid, is that you have to make sure you are on the right side. The bad side looks just like the good one when you don’t know any better.”
“I know which side I’m on,” I said between the grit in my teeth, fists tight against my thighs. Maybe I could punch her.
“Sure you do, come find me after you’ve killed your third ‘tyrant’ and tell me if you still think so. Maybe we can go blow up buildings together. Or people. Guess it depends on how your revolution pans out.” She looked around her, again. The curious under mortals who had peeked out to stare at us retreating back into their holes.
“What the hell is wrong with you?”
“Boredom.” She shrugged her shoulders, the maniacal light vanishing from her eyes.
How in the hell was this a four-thousand-year-old immortal and mother of the headmaster to Imdalind Academy?

Blog Blitz :The Mosaic Collection~Eleanor Bertin

Welcome to the Blog Blitz  for The Mosaic Collection, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE COLLECTION

For His glory...

The Mosaic Collection is an international community of women authors who use faith-based fiction to touch hearts with the good news that Christ's finished work on the cross has made us one family, and to nurture affection for the people God has placed within our circles of influence, so that the grace and glory of God may become visible and personal to everyone we meet.

...and our good

We are sisters, a beautiful mosaic united by the love of God through the blood of Christ. We have experienced the redemptive, restorative power of God's grace in our marriages and families, and we believe our God is able to heal, restore and redeem our brokenness. His love fills us with the courage to persevere, and to offer others a Christ-like compassion that is full of His wisdom and grace.

Visit the Mosaic Collection Website to stay posted on each new release & follow the collection blog for meaningful posts from the authors!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

In a fit of optimism at age eleven, Eleanor Bertin began her first novel by numbering a stack of 100 pages. Two of them got filled with words. Lifelines, her first completed novel, was published in 2016, followed by Pall of Silence in 2017, a memoir about her late son Paul.

She holds a college diploma in Communications and worked in agriculture journalism until the birth of her first child. The family eventually grew to include one daughter and six sons (the youngest with Down syndrome) whom she home-educated for 25 years.

Eleanor lives with her husband and youngest son, Timothy, amidst the ongoing renovation of a century home in central Alberta where she reads, writes, sweeps up construction rubble and blogs about a sometimes elusive contentment at jewelofcontentment.wordpress.com.

Cornerstone message from the collection:

Launch out into the far reaches of the universe. Delve deep into the intricate wonders of creation’s minutest particles. The farther humanity goes, the more awe I feel at the God whose power and genius spoke it all into existence. As a very young girl, I relished the delicious thrill of feeling tiny in the face of vast power, whether under a giant prairie sky, or failing in my count of the sparkling night stars. Like holding hands with a grizzly bear, God’s thundering bigness against my feeble smallness terrifies and quiets me.

That shivery awe fills the pages of the Bible, where God’s mighty power and fearsome holiness are vividly on display. There I read of a majestic King, both perfectly holy and utterly sovereign. That’s the terror part! He governs every detail of history, and every detail of my life.
But layered within that message is the constant harmony line of God’s pure goodness and the astonishing message of His never-ending love in the sacrificial death of His Son Jesus in my place.

“And from my smitten heart with tears
Two wonders I confess --
The wonders of His glorious love
And my unworthiness.”
(Elizabeth C. Clephane, Beneath the Cross of Jesus)

I’m flooded with joy knowing I belong to a trustworthy, loving God who forgives me and never leaves me!

***FUN FACTS/INTERVIEW/GUEST

Favorite place to read: On my bed, or stretched out on the couch. With fuzzy blanket. And chocolate.

Favorite book character from childhood: Anne of Green Gables

Favorite movie: Pride & Prejudice (6 hr. BBC version)

Favorite quote or Bible verse: “Ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.” Dt. 32: 3,4 coupled with “He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zeph. 3:17

Favorite splurge/treat: Chocolate-covered dried cherries!

Favorite character you’ve created: Can I pick three? None of these are my main characters, but they appeal to me anyway.
Anna Fawcett, a wise senior whose insightful questions and warm caring transform those she touches. (She’s modelled after my own mother.)
Jesse Fawcett, her 24yo son who has Down syndrome. I love his quirky ways, many of which are derived from my own son, Timo, or accounts of real people with DS as told to me by their families.
Jake Adrian, cultish, controlling legalist, manipulative self-styled prophet, tyrant of his family, money lover and secret gambler, northern Alberta farmer. (It was alarming to me how easily his wonky theology flowed onto the page!)

Last 3 great books you read: Institutes of the Christian Religion by John Calvin, The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah, The Holiness of God by R.C. Sproul

Dream vacation: leisurely British/European tour of great art, museums, architecture, history

Hidden talent: Pie-making. (“Maybe it should be less hidden,” husband says.)

Plotter or pantser: I plot by the seat of my pants. By that, I mean I have an overarching theme that governs why I’m writing the book, I make a rough outline of key plot points, and then I live with my characters day in and day out, letting the details of their characters unfold. Unbound (my Mosaic book) is my most plotted book thus far. Three-quarters of the way through its sequel, Tethered, I still wish I’d taken the time to plot this one in more detail.

In no particular order, ten of your favorite things (i.e. hot cocoa, a warm breeze, There are no warm breezes in Alberta. The first time I experienced such a thing was in 100degree heat in Texas. I was not amused., the sound of my kids’ laughter, etc.) :
  • The swish of a tape measure
  • The squeal of a power tool {These two reveal my eagerness to see our 16-year whole-house renovation completed!}
  • All my grown sons kibbutzing together (they’re very witty!)
  • A long conversation about Jesus and theology with whoever will indulge with me
  • Listening to Handel’s Messiah
  • Mowing our acreage, seasonally scented by lilacs, chokeberry blossoms, wolf willow, or alfalfa
  • Reading to/chatting/snuggling with my 5 (soon to be 7) grandchildren
  • Sewing (especially quilts)
  • Flower gardening (Lilies! Roses! Delphiniums!)
  • A deep discussion with my husband (or daughter, or sister, or mother, or friend)
